Development strategy of Dnipropetrovsk region fish farming

The purpose of the article is creating a preliminary “Strategy of development” for the fisheries sector of the Dnipropetrovsk region that directs at increase of the region fish production, using fishery potential of our region, which is not fully realized now. Model of joint actions of follow economic subjects – government departments, scientists, fisheries specialists, and other users of aquatic biological resources, – is presented. This model aimed at increasing of Dnipro region's fisheries sector production, and we name this model as the Development Strategy of the Dnipropetrovsk Fish Industry (hereinafter referred to as the Strategy). The current state of fish farms in Dnipropetrovsk region is estimated, in particular, the fishery fund of the water basins of the region and the development of the fish industry, pond fish farming and amateur fishing. The fishery potential of the region is quite significant, but this potential is not fully implemented. Annual fish consumption in the Dnepropetrovsk region is 2.5 – 3 times less than the physiological needs of the person. The task of the Strategy is diagnosis the main purpose of strategic planning, determination ways to achieve a new level of the fishing industry, increasing of volume and competitiveness of products based on the use of natural resources potential and established priorities for the development of the fish industry.  It will help to provide residents of the region with a wide range of fish products with moderate price for the population with different levels of income. The main directions of long-term activity in regards to the development of the region fishing industry are characterized on the basis of natural and socio-economic conditions. Besides, directions of activity for ensuring the scientific and technological development of the fish industry of the region are defined. In accordance with presented “Strategy”, the main directions for further development of the fishing industry in Dnipropetrovsk area can be the following directions: environmentally safe commodity fish breeding; industrial aquaculture (growing of fish in reticulated cages, fish pond and closed water supply sistems), selection and breeding work, reproduction of aquatic biological resources, protection of fish resources and regulation of fisheries, development of fish- processing industry, development of the mixed feed industry, and also control and assurance of veterinary quality of fish products. The presented model is a preliminary attempt to create a Strategy for the Development of Fish Industry in Dnipropetrovsk region and this model requires further cooperation and coordination work with representatives of the regional authorities.
