MORPHOFUNCTIONAL BLOOD PARAMETERS OF THE HORSES AFFECTED BY HERPES VIRUS INFECTION

Abstract

The aim of the research was to examine epizootological situation regarding first and second types of herpes infection on horse breeding farm. Investigate the haematological and biochemical parameters of horses blood and reveal dependence of morphological and biochemical changes in horses lesioned with EHV-I (equine herpesvirus I tipe), EHV-II (equine herpesvirus II tipe). The results of serological researches have shown that of the 101 individuals been investigated 68% were positive to EHV-I, 58% were positive to EHV-II. Of these, 53% of individuals were positive for the first and second types. The dependency has been discovered: EHV-I positive horse are mostly 3-4 years old. EHV-II positive are horses with average age of 5 years. Horses whose age is more then 5 years are positive to both EHV-I and EHV-II. Only less then 2 years old individuals are EHV-I and EHV-II negative.This means that lesion of EHV virus increases with the age of the animal.The amount of leukocytes in animals that are infected both with EHV-I and EHV-II is slightly lower than normal physiological value. This can indicate the immunosuppressive state of the animal, that is infected with two types of viruses. Also the increase of immunoglobulins level has been noticed for the groups of animalsm that are infected with monoinfection of first type and mix infection of first and second types. This can testify about intensificatio of protein synthesis for globulin fractions,as a response to presence of infection. One more interesting fact is the increase of hepatic transaminases level. The animals the were infected with monoinfection of first type or mix infection have level of ALT higher then normal physiological value. The AST level is higher or equal to maximus bound of normal values interval.Veterinary medicine still has no facts that can canfirm the hepatotropic behaviour of EHV-I and EHV-II. However one can not exclude that chance since humanitarian medicine has stated such a facts.The increase of alkaline phosphatase level has been recorded in three groups of animals: first, third and fourth. The increase of that parameter can be recorded for general liver disease of toxical or virus nature. And for young horses in the period of intensive growth (like in fourth group – that is why for that grup this parameter is little informative).EHV-I and EHV-II are a chronic infections that is able to reactivate in adverse conditions. With age the lesion level growth. Mix infection is been recorded. The result of the research been made points to the nevative influence of persistent herpes. This is reflected in changes of hematologic biochemical parameters, in spite that the general condition of the animal remains on satisfying level.One more interesting fact is the increased level of ALT and AST in groups infected with virus. And no such fact in control seronegative group. This can indicate the hepatotropic nature of horses herpes viruses and requires additional investigation.
